Does GEHA Insurance Cover Mental Health Treatment?

Good mental health is as vital to a person’s life as good physical health. For this reason, GEHA provides coverage for help for mental illnesses in almost all of their plans. Many people choose in-network options while some choose out-of-network options when necessary. What type of coverage each person can take advantage of depends on their plan, co-payments, and if they have met their deductible.

GEHA mental health coverage provides structured care that fits the needs of people who struggle with a variety of mental health disorders. The company offers access to care from physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and more. This includes telehealth appointments that help treat mental illnesses while allowing the person to see the clinician from the comfort of their home.

GEHA insurance is in-network with Serenity Grove. This allows the insurance company’s customers access to high-quality residential and outpatient programs with us. Coverage also typically includes treatment for substance use disorders, which often accompany mental health disorders

The GEHA insurance plan types can be obtained for Self Only, Self Plus One, and Self and Family. The plans break down into the following five categories:

What Treatment Programs Does GEHA Cover?

The types of programs that are covered under GEHA mental health coverage vary. Influencing factors include the exact type of program and the length of stay.

Most GEHA insurance plans cover most or all of the following levels of care for treating mental health disorders:

Types of Therapies GEHA Covers

A myriad of options can be used to help someone cover a lot of ground when treating their mental health disorders. Upon arrival at a treatment program, an evaluation will be made of the individual to determine which types of therapy will provide them with the best opportunities to make progress and heal.

Many of the types of therapy covered by GEHA insurance include:

How Long Will My GEHA Insurance Cover Mental Health Treatment For?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to how long an individual’s GEHA mental health coverage lasts. Influencing factors include the type of policy they have, if they use in-network or out-of-network care providers, and if their deductible has been met.

To get answers to any questions about the length of coverage provided by a person’s plan, two options can get the answers needed. Current GEHA customers have several options to contact the company via telephone or the website and speak with a company rep. The person should have their ID card handy with their ID number.

Another option is to contact the treatment facility directly and ask to speak to an admissions counselor. They are trained to help people cut through the red tape of complicated insurance plans and understand what options are available to them. GEHA customers can find out what programs their policy covers at that particular facility, for how long, and what (if any) the cost to them will be.
